i'm running windows8 under VMware fusion on my mac.the problem I seem to can not fix no matter what I do is getting the updates installed. this has happened with both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of win8. I am not sure what elce there is for me to do. I'd like to be able to use this or at least be able to use 8.1 when it comes out and not have to go back to xp. there is no way that I can get 7. so I am for now stuck with this or xp. what happens is it gets like I wanna say, like to 100 percent of installing the updates and then it says that failior configuring windows updates. reverting changes. do not turn off your computer. this goes on for at least 30 minutes or an hour or more. and when I can finally sign back into windows, the same updates that it failed to install keep wanting to try to install again with the same results.

It is easy fixed.
If your mac has all the windows parts, you have a trouble shooter. In the trouble shooter you find repair windows updates, and let iit work.
If that doesn't fix it, their is a method to clear the update history. When you do this, updates will install.
If you'd like me to post how this is done on a PC let me know.
If the Mac is totally different, as to Windows running on it, you can search Microsoft's website for your answer, but it is easy.
I don't have a Mac handy running Windows to see the steps, so can't post these.
This happens sometimes, and when you update after you fix it, you'll find another tool that fixes some issues. This is an optional update.

well, as I have said before, this is running vmware fusion that allows me to run windows in a vurtual machine. I have tried the troubleshooter, and it says it fixt problems, but it's to no avale. the same thing keeps happening over and over again. i'm wondering now if I should have ran this through bootcamp that would allow me to run windows natively? I chose fusion because of the fact it installs the o s without me having to do anything, and if I were to use bootcamp I would have had to have sited assistants.

Yes, sometimes the troble shooter doesn't fix it, so you have to go to the second thing I talked about.
Microsoft has a fix it tool, for it as well.
Search for how to repair windows updates manually. If you can't find it say and I'll post the steps for a PC.
Microsoft will also help you if you call, because you get so many days to receive free help with Windows.

I think I will need the steps on how this is done. another friend of my said to clear the update history as you suggest and then stop the update service or something.

if you stop the update service you wont get automatic updates. that's a bad idea.

yeah I kno, but someone said I should do this in order to configure some of these updates to install manualy. just last night the damn thing restarted itself I think at least 5 times and I had to wait a bit over 2 hours before I could sign back into windows. all because those updates refused to install. it was the only thing that I could do to stop them from downloading over and over again. if I haven't stop the service, every time I would have tried to start up the vm, it would have wanted to install those updates every single time and I would have been stuck having to watch the damn thing fail again and I just don't have the time to sit there and watch for that long period of time.

Yes, exactly. I'll get the steps for you. It is not hard.
After you do it you just wait until the next update schedule and you'll be fine.

Okay here is the pages that will help you.
I don’t know your exact error codes, so you’ll know this.
On this page you can find fix it tools, or you can get help from Microsoft to do it for you.
You can also find manual steps.

Next here is how to get Microsoft to help you.
On this page you can get help from Microsoft.

Here is one more page.
I can not find the article I was referring to when I told you there was an easy method. I’ve used it twice, and should have kept it handy, but I’ve been successful with the fix it tools lately.

That is the best I can offer.

Forgot, all this information is PC related, so again, it might be easier to just call and have them connect to your system.

well, I went to one of the sites that you suggested, and downloaded some sort of diagnostic tool. was able to get only a handfull of updates installed. and what updates failed to install, the ones that didn't fail got deleated. there are no error codes. i've had this problem going on since june. seriously thinking of holding off until I can afford the money to upgrade my vmware software and try 8.1 to see if anyting can be fixt because this is really starting to frustrate me to bits

I really wish I could had that article, but I couldn't. It works well.
Tell me, what is keeping you from using the free services that come with Windows, and calling Microsoft and getting them to help you?
If you upgrade to 8.1, and that is free by the way, when you purchased 8, if you don't do a clean install, you'll still have the issue?
